Flea Market Molly by Red Jordon Arobateau
$20/1sted1978/2nd ed2006 This book was written in 1978 on an old typewriter with a lot of words that were scratched out by hand and sentences that are sometimes hard to figure. Other than that, I loved it. Written in a very raw style, it tells the story of Molly, an old woman barely getting by in a seedy Berkeley hotel back in the day when such hotels were very cheap and very dangerous. In fact, as Molly goes about her day, the top three floors are being demolished right above her head. Molly is a flea market seller, it is her livelihood and her curse; she putters around, sometimes starving and dreary, finding old items and selling them to deadbeats, as well as to the more wealthy and callous; along with her cast of characters, the other junk sellers, winos and washouts of the market. A great story, a piece of history and a joy to read. Jordan is an extraordinary writer with a huge volume of work.
