My City of No Repair

My City has an insatiable appetite
its belly swells on the decadence
it consumes
spitting out ruins
and decay
of dreams gone away
only taking in
what it deems worthy.

The heat is stifling
in my City
I go to my car
I roll down the window
and turn the key
the wheel too hot to grip
I am sticking to the
leather seats
like a fly in a trap.

I start my journey into the
smog filled sunset of my
City
I choke
on the exhaust
of everyone’s waste.

My City used to be glorious and shiny
filled with hope
much like my dreams
only to have reality
tell us different.

We are one in the same
my City and I
always wanting
what we once were

In our own minds
our streets are paved
in gold.

My Neurosis in High Gear Part 1

Your scent fills my nostrils
a strange mixture of
fear and lust

One more drink and
I might have enough courage
to cross the distance between us

The wall you so cleverly built
is beginning to crumble

I first thought I was not worthy of your Love
little did I know

You were not worthy of me
I digress-

There you are
beautiful and innocent
vulnerable and willing
tender, yet cruel

I cross the room
your heart is falling
into my hands
I question if I have the strength to hold it.

Falling/Failing

Vows Broken-
cracks too big
to repair
the shame of failing
enters my heart
replacing any tenderness

Twisting it into a
calloused organ

Who knew this could hurt so bad
I always knew my love would fail me
I just never thought it would fail you

My words fall upon deaf ears
my love falls unnoticed
no need to hurt me anymore

I can do that myself.

Los Angeles based writer Priscilla Snyder writes poetry, short stories and social commentaries. Most of these deal with the misgivings of our cleverly, happily ever after constructed lives, where egos run rampant and heartache is just another day in the city. About OW!
Outsider Writers have been distributing chapbooks in dark subterranean caverns for too long. The corporate presses and literary institutions have no vision. The media is irrelevant. It's time to rise into the sun!

Our Goal: Unite the write! We will join forces where we are strong, eliminate duplication of effort where we are weak and put the power and authority over literature back into the hands of the only legitimate owners: the authors and the readers.
