Uncomely
She's wearing her need on the outside like an ugly tent dress. My wish is for brooding. I want her in black. Thin and affected. I want to watch her across the room exhaling bitterness, her Dubonnet lipstick tainting the tip of everything, the air around her and those who breathe her.
But this one is wretched thick skinned and fat. She is my Venus animus. A beautiful torso. I will place her in a cedar box, carry her with me my icon, my beloved albatross.

More Human
I’m in bed with the wrong man. The room is painted an ugly color we both agree on that. I shouldn’t complain beggars can’t be choosy, I beg him to stay. He leaves, I stay he comes back and we’re there again, between white sheets, as if we are clean, and he tries to find a way to make me see things differently. He calls the color mauve. It sounds better for a moment. We have to face facts; the pink carnation colored room is putrid. I tell him that we can’t do what we’re doing, he agrees and pulls me closer and it’s wrong but it’s so human.

You’ve stolen my Pollyanna. Guillotine her, she's as good as dead.
There was never an invitation to turn me into the iris of unrequited sentiment.
For now there’s no way forward, perhaps some day we’ll find a key to the lock that which keeps us apart.
But if we don’t, let’s just say that it was all worth it for the poetry.
