My name is Justin Hyde. I live in Iowa, where I work with criminals.
//a poetry to push the country forward//
i like to think if i'd been around during slavery i would have written scathing essays helped with the underground railroad and assassinated owners of tobacco and cotton plantations.
i'm convinced had i been around during the women's suffrage movement i would have started fistfights with misogynists and burned down their factories.
i tell myself there is nothing going on today worth that kind of effort.
which is not true.
i would do well to become active in the republican party
use the perception of iowans as honest and simple to sweet-talk a private audience with bush
and
eviscerate the idiot with a pocket-knife
or
beat him to death with his mountain bike.
that would go a long way in pushing the country forward.
but truth is i'm just a writer of poems.
some of my contemporaries are deluded to the contrary
but
writers of poems are only concerned with their own minor hell.
we're no better than hollywood actors or musicians
and
just as useful against the barrel of the actualities drawing cold and hard to the temple.
