thunderbirds


$5 per buzzard.
$20 per hawk.
deal. deal.
and stay away from my children.

i was a poor shot
but i had lots of bullets
the hawk fell fast.
the buzzards arrived soon.

hundreds of them.
they laughed and told jokes
and were thankful for
the meager dinner.

we sat for hours
laughing and crying
about life.
how unfair.
how unjust.

waiting for another hawk.
