Amazon and Penguin books have teamed up to create a contest for authors wanting to publish their first novel.  As of this time, the contest is closed.  The field of five thousand entrants has already been filled.  But you can still participate in the judging process.

Contestants have until November fifth to submit their manuscripts.  After preliminary judging, excerpts of the semi-finalist books will be posted at Amazon.  You, the reading public, get to vote for your favorites.  Excerpts will be posted on January fifteenth, 2008 and remain open for voting until March second.  On March third, finalists will have excerpts posted and you can vote on them until March thirty-first.  The final winner will be announced on April seventh.

That winner will receive a publishing contract with Penguin Books, promotional support on Amazon.Com, and a media suite from Hewlet Packard.  There are prizes for runners up as well.
