David Blaine is a pure writer who loves the language. Which is refreshing to find these days. He is a patient craftsman who has spent years perfecting his craft, and he has it about down. Little wasted motion, beautiful language and choice of words. From the first poem Slip Covers to the last poem No Solution David weaves a beautiful aesthetic journey, which should not be missed. If I had to have a complaint I could say it is short (twenty-three pages, eighteen poems), but it is a chapbook and chapbooks traditionally are short. But you know what? It was just the right size for me to read in one sitting and that is cool with me. David’s myspace page is here
http://www.myspace.com/daveblaine. You can pick this gem up there.

I respect David Blaine as a poet and person, though I'm not a huge fan of his work, but Jesus Christ Michael, this review reads like it was written by a seven year old. Seriously, "But you know what? It was just the right size for me to read in one sitting and that is cool with me." Do we know anything about the quality/content/style/delivery of the poetry in the book? Did you do anything to contextualize the work? Do we know anything at all about the book, besides the fact that it is 23 pages (standard size for a chapbook, by the way)? I could've had my eleven year old neighbor write this review without even seeing the book. C'mon, you've got a great forum for poetry with this site, take advantage of it with real quality work.

You also use the word 'beautiful' in two consecutive sentences.

By the way, why is it that when people praised your work in Blaine's review, you bashfully aw-shucks'd them, and when I provided a legitimate criticism (you do rely on an awful lot of cliches and truisms), you assumed I was someone out to settle a personal vendetta? Honest truth: I have never met or spoken or communicated with you in any way. Just giving some honest feedback to a site that seems to have a lot'f mutual masturbation going on. Isn't that why you guys criticize the academic presses?

About OW!
Outsider Writers have been distributing chapbooks in dark subterranean caverns for too long. The corporate presses and literary institutions have no vision. The media is irrelevant. It's time to rise into the sun!

Our Goal: Unite the write! We will join forces where we are strong, eliminate duplication of effort where we are weak and put the power and authority over literature back into the hands of the only legitimate owners: the authors and the readers.
