Why the Internet has failed to produce a revolution in literature as it has in the music scene. Of course, there's nothing in this article that many of us haven't known and argued for years....but it's nice to see it being said in The Guardian!

tough one...do we REALLY want to start a revolution like the one in the music industry...it has slumped for the first time since it's inception

if a similar thing happens to the publishing world, it will be even harder for writers to make money from their writing

those of us amateurs who dont rely on the market may be all in favour, but those who dont.......

theyll have a harder time paying their bills

If the market is slumping, it's because it's flooded with crap. There are two reasons a writer is an outsider. One is they suck, the other is they don't suck, but they don't have someone on the inside who can pull them in. The one's who suck, there's no saving them. But they are free to go to LuLu or IUniverse and publish their books.

We need to come up with something that shows we're better than the rest. We need to build a brand.

About OW!
Outsider Writers have been distributing chapbooks in dark subterranean caverns for too long. The corporate presses and literary institutions have no vision. The media is irrelevant. It's time to rise into the sun!

Our Goal: Unite the write! We will join forces where we are strong, eliminate duplication of effort where we are weak and put the power and authority over literature back into the hands of the only legitimate owners: the authors and the readers.
