Actually he makes a few good points -- for a change! (That's a joke O.D.B. -- don't get all worked up and send your goons out to break my blue pencils again.) Notes From A Dissonant Ole Man #3
The O.D.B. is stuck home today with car trouble, three hundred bucks for a new radiator. Ouch! So rather than contribute to the muck of society, I guess I have some time to rant, as the O.D.B. falls deeper in debt. Not faster than the country, but hey. The first thing on my plate people saying stupid things on TV, which would inevitably lead me to Don Imus, if you are a nationally syndicated radio host, and your show is being shown on MSNBC why would you make a racist comment like calling a group of young black women “nappy headed hoes” or “jigaboos”? The sad fact is that negative attention is still attention in today’s society. Some twisted people may like what he said and start watching or listening to the show. Even people that he offended may watch the show just to see just what he says next. What did he get for it? Well the TV and radio contracts canceled because sponsors were pulling out, damn what the people say right?
Tarnations! The O.D.B. grew up in the south. He’s been fighting racism all of his life. If not with brawn then with a pen, and either way you’re gonna get in a lot of trouble. Rednecks don’t know intellect. They do not want to debate.
While we are on the subject of rich people doing stupid shit on TV, I would like to direct your attention to Karl Rove. Yes, I’m sure most of us saw the MC Rove act that he did as entertainment for a dinner for a bunch of rich people including the President. Tarnations! There are innocent people dying in Iraq, and not just our troops mind you. There are Iraqi women and girls being violated by soldiers. There are female soldiers who are dying of dehydration because they cannot drink water after a certain time, out of fear that they will have to go to the bathroom and be attacked by a male soldier. And these rich folks are yucking it up, mocking black culture. This is how they keep themselves entertained? They don’t care about the young people lost in Iraq or the innocent Iraqi lives. I guess The O.D.B. should have thought this was funny looking at this. But it made him sick to his stomach. It left me with that uneasy feeling that just kinda lingers.
It looks like that idiot Bush has finally gone and done it. We all knew America was an elitist institution, but does he have to advertise it? It seems Bush’s new immigration plan would involve poor immigrants trying to feed their families paying thousands of dollars, just to be able to come to America and work below minimum wage slave labor jobs. Brilliant idea huh? Well its just another way they have found to outsource American jobs. We have factories shutting down and re-opening overseas, we have corporations like Starbucks who are exploiting prisons for cheap labor, then we have the immigrants who labor laws do not apply to. Let me tell you, if you don’t think there are sweatshops in America, you had better look around.
Okay on a serious note Kurt Vonnegut died. One of the few authors The O.D.B. would approve of. You can hear that approval through the laughter. Yes he made The O.D.B. laugh. Makin’ fun of this ridiculous world that we live in. I’m sure tonight when The O.D.B. settles down with the little Miss and gets to drinkin’ some beers, he’ll put one down for Kurt. Maybe a few, okay a lot.
Now finally it seems The O.D.B. has found a good home on the Internet. Many people will be reading this. The O.D.B. does appreciate the distribution of his message. This Internet thing is amazing. It reaches many people. The O.D.B. feels the need to communicate and he is. The fact you are reading this is proof of that. Outsider Writers is a fine group, as The O.D.B. is most definitely an outsider. Alright I shall drink a beer for the outsiders. I don’t know about that editor’s smart assed comments. He talks like The O.D.B. is crazy, kids The O.D.B. is totally sane. Too sane, why else would I write like this? Though the loony bin would be nice. You get to live rent-free right? But the drugs, The O.D.B. does not disapprove of recreational drugs. Whatever you do that is your thing. The O.D.B. has been known to partake in the passing of the pipe or the joint. But government drugs? Psychotropics? Tarnations! Doesn’t anyone remember what MKUltra is? Well the point is that it’s the legal drugs that you have to watch kids.
