Susan Yount and I only know each other from online exchanges, although we easily could have met up in Chicago at different times.A couple of years ago I was looking for a place to get constructive feedback on my work and I found that place at Perspectives, an online workshop moderated by Kristin Biss.Susan was one of many helpful members I met there. At the time I hadn’t published much and couldn’t believe how giving she was. Here was a woman who'd had her poems published, had won literary contests, had studied, post graduate, in writing and who worked for The Associated Press. And she was kind enough to critique my work. For free.
She is also one of the most interesting people I’ve met online.
By Michael D. Grover I met Larry Jaffe over ten years ago. I was a young writer that had just moved to LA. I didn't really know my way around. I went to a reading my girlfriend went to in some guys living room every Monday night. Someone saw me read that night and told me outside later to check out Larry Jaffe's reading in Pasadena. The first night I went I was hooked and I knew I had to go back every week. This was poetry the way I knew it should be, I had just never seen it that way before. Infectious, full of energy. Larry Jaffe's passion for poetry spilled over into the crowd. The reading eventually moved into Hollywood and became even bigger and better. Did Larry Jaffe build a literary movement back then? Probably. Was it ever documented? No. But the people that were part of it know in their hearts what they were part of.
Okay ten years ago I am at a poetry reading in Los Angeles. Ellyn Maybe walks in and signs up for the open mic. I am amazed because I thought she was one of the most brilliant poets in the world. I turned to my friends there and no one else knew who she was. Ten years later I still think she is one of the most brilliant poets in the world and it is an honor to have her as Outsider Of The Month. So I bring you the Outsider Of The Month of August Ellyn Maybe.
Edited by Michael D. Grover Years ago I was running a different website than the one that I am working on now. I recieved a submission from a poet in England by the name of John G. Hall. I was instantly blown away by the passion and the political conscious of his poetry. For these are the things I strive for when I write. Years later I am proud to say that we have developed a mutual respect for each other and a friendship. But it is not friendship that makes John G. Hall the new outsider of the month. It is the simple fact that he is still one of the best damn poets that I have ever read. John lives in Manchester, England where he edits the political literary magazine Citizen 32. He has two books out and one chapbook coming soon. Citizen 32 can be found on the web here http://www.citizen32.co.uk/. So now I proudly present the July Outsider Of The Month John G. Hall.
Misti Rainwater-Lites is in my opinion one of the best poets out there. Hopefully the poetry that follows will justify that statement. If not it is just my opinion right? She is currently pregnant, and living without air conditioning in Albuquerque, New Mexico. I know the interview says she is moving, but that has changed. So that is good for Albuquerque. She has a few books out that were self- published. Hopefully later this month she will release an anthology for the West Memphis Three edited by her. You can find her stuff here http://stores.lulu.com/ebulliencepress. So here is your outsider of the month for June, Misti Rainwater-Lites!

About OW!
Outsider Writers have been distributing chapbooks in dark subterranean caverns for too long. The corporate presses and literary institutions have no vision. The media is irrelevant. It's time to rise into the sun!
Our Goal: Unite the write! We will join forces where we are strong, eliminate duplication of effort where we are weak and put the power and authority over literature back into the hands of the only legitimate owners: the authors and the readers.
