They
They wait,
they listen
with hate,
they study you
when your not looking,
they say
to themselves
as they grow hungry
in desperation
for the light
for love
for knowledge,
that they will
get you when
you are sleeping,
they will ill you
with an illusive pill,
until you sink
into unawares,
then they will
kill you,
they will bash you
a brutal long beating,
until your brains
and Christ comes
gushing out,
they will feast
on your mind,
first the right hemisphere
then the left,
they will beast
on your peace,
and eat
your liver alive.
They will endow the joy
and suck clean the sun
that shines hope,
and put the remaining
in a doggie bag.
They will drink
the forgiven blood,
unforgivable.
They will digest
it all
and move on
to their jobs
their homes
their families
their fetishes
their unresolved
lives
they will move on
and everything
will be a pastime.
They will go
back to their normality
ways of living,
cheating taxes
ignoring their children,
spouses in closets,
they will go back
to history
and wonder where
and why the just
has gone.
They will go back
to their murdering
ways and wars,
their promises
they request
in the shade of
desperation.
They will yield
in marriage
and exit in death.
All the while
thinking
in the dark back
of their skulls,
they have done
a service unto
their god,
in stamping out
the strong.
And pretending
to be something
they’re not,
hiding jealously
in beauty
and rage in hate,
for this is
what makes them
feel human.

Lacey and Uri

stick thin Hollywood going down on lovely curvaceous
drinking down the sweetest vile
she swept the floors
and stained the carpets
climbed the walls
and entertained us
with her stories of crowded jails
and electric rails
deep wells that survived the drought
smoking grassland
and welcome mats
from war torn countries beginning with 'B'

The Old Bitch sat in her garden.

It was a beautiful autumn’s day in Brittany, the sun was shining and a crisp wind with the promise of winter brushed against her face. Ladybirds were crawling over the last bloom of roses and the odd cheeky sparrow swooped down hoping for some crumbs from the table. Somewhere in the distance, she heard the cry of a bird of prey, a buzzard or hawk that was out hunting for its victim. This noise pleased her, as all was as it should be.

The law of the claw......

Featured Poet of the Week --- Miles J. Bell

Smart words

I am going to have to
watch my mouth
these days
when the adolescents
insult me to impress
their grunting friends

I don't look for trouble
I keep my head down
and I suppose I don't often notice
but sometimes I do

time was
I could get away
with responding
with wit that either floored
or baffled them
throwing insults like

evolutionary cul-de-sac

I fucked your father for
a doughnut and the doughnut
was better

or the classic

learn to read

and my height helped
and even though I would never
hit anyone
they didn't know it
or weren't sure enough to
go too far

but these in troubled times
the boys are fearless
carry knives
and it would be a pathetic way to go
stabbed by a lad with less hair
on his balls
than I have
on my toes
sliding weakly to
a wet pavement
listening to swift footsteps
retreating
then nothing but
my own shallow breaths

I will keep quiet

I want to be taken
in the end
by time
listening to the years
gently dissolving behind me

so now
I will save
my smart words
for the
poem.

thunderbirds

$5 per buzzard.
$20 per hawk.
deal. deal.
and stay away from my children.

i was a poor shot
but i had lots of bullets
the hawk fell fast.
the buzzards arrived soon.

hundreds of them.
they laughed and told jokes
and were thankful for
the meager dinner.

we sat for hours
laughing and crying
about life.
how unfair.
how unjust.

waiting for another hawk.

About OW!
Outsider Writers have been distributing chapbooks in dark subterranean caverns for too long. The corporate presses and literary institutions have no vision. The media is irrelevant. It's time to rise into the sun!

Our Goal: Unite the write! We will join forces where we are strong, eliminate duplication of effort where we are weak and put the power and authority over literature back into the hands of the only legitimate owners: the authors and the readers.
