Reassess Your Weapons zine needs contributions and submissions for its tenth issue.

General submissions are hugely sought after, as well as submissions around this issue’s theme: Boundaries.

The theme developed from the need to recognize and respect boundaries in order to effectively and comfortably work within, and contribute collectively to our communities. However, please feel free to contribute by exploring any ways in which boundaries affect or influence you. Or around the theme of boundaries in general – personal, social, political, geographical, work-based, private, public, etc. etc.

Submissions can be in any form – from written discussion, tips, illustrations, personal experience, whatever!

Reassess Your Weapons zine developed from the Manifesta feminist and queer DIY collective in Leeds, UK but has grown into a wider collective, contributions based zine, which is looking for submissions from friends and supporters of Manifesta’s feminist ethos.

To learn more about Manifesta, go to visit: http://www.myspace.com/manifestaleeds or www. Manifesta.co.uk (the largely out of date website)

To contribute, or for more information, please contact: reassessyrweapons@manifesta.co.uk

Deadline for submissions: March 1st 2009

The recently reawakened Grey Book Press is seeking poetry for its upcoming journal (Spring 2009). Poems should be original and previously unpublished. Pays one copy per poem accepted. Send five poems (give or take) to greybookpress@gmail. com. Introductory note and bio are helpful, but not required.

Poems should feel lived-in, of this world, and real. Formal poetry is fine, as long as its form doesn’t get in the way. We like Asian forms, particularly. Subject matter is open. We’re open to “grown-up” poetry; erotica is okay, but explicit pornography is not. Nothing didactic, and no greeting card verse.

For “journal” submissions, send three to five poems to greybookpress@gmail.com. Poems can be typed into the body of the email. A short introductory note is appreciated.

We are currently not accepting unsolicited chapbook manuscripts.

34thParallel features fiction, poetry, and interviews with emerging writers and artists. Striving to work with authors, nurturing their talent, always respecting individual creative vision rather than only considering the potential for profit. Publishes work that experiments with and test boundaries.

“We think there are more good writers who are undiscovered than soccer moms at Starbucks. We’re a couple of writers ourselves and we know what it’s like struggling in a sea of obscurity. We both have stacks of rejection letters to our credit too, so you know we’ll write good ones if we can’t use your work in 34thParallel. We want our magazine to be the Rolling Stone of writing where you can be proud to have your work accepted, read, and acclaimed!!”

Seeks fiction, poetry, artwork and photography.

For fiction and poetry paste one short story or one poem into the text of an email, or attach your work in a Word document, rtf, or txt. Limit your short story to 2000 words or less.

Accepts simultaneous submissions when mentioned upon submission and notification if accepted elsewhere.

For artwork & photography (including comics, graphic novel excerpts, and cartoons) send an email attachment of a jpg file no bigger than 500kb. Looking for photos (black & white and color) and art that challenges boundaries, that’s stunning, brilliant, beautiful, and juxtaposes parallels overlooked by the average eye.

Write a cover letter telling us a little about your life, your writing or art, and where more of your work can be seen.

Make sure your email subject header contains the word “submission” with the title of your work and your name. Submissions without this run the risk of being accidentally deleted as spam.

After sending your submission wait for a response before submitting again (usually between one and four months.)

All submissions must be your own work and previously unpublished. Payment is a contributor copy of the magazine in PDF format. The magazine is copyrighted but the rights to fiction and poetry remain with the authors. Acceptance for the printed publication means they have first North American serial rights (first magazine on this continent to publish your piece). With consent, you may be asked to include your work in a printed anthology. Following publication, all other rights revert to you.

Guidelines in brief;
Genres: Fiction & Poetry, Artwork & Photography
Print Magazine Specifics:
Fiction—1500 to 3500 words;
Poetry—1 poem at a time;
Artwork/Photography—500k file (in attachment)

Online Specifics:
Fiction—1500 words max;
Poetry—1 poem at a time;
Artwork/Photography—500k file (in attachment)
indicate that you are submitting for online.

“We often feature work from a writer online and in print at the same time. If you would like to submit work for online and for the print version, you may do so in one email, but only one piece for each submission. So, for example, you might submit a short-short and a longer story at the same time for us to consider for the online version and the print magazine.”

Submissions by email to: submission@t34thparallel.net
