NOT YOUR BITCH #17, The Poetry Series
Featuring
MELISSA HANSEN
the sneaky baby
she had
always
been
sneaky
always
sneaking
around
she was
always
listening
to her
mother
when
she
spoke
popping
the
nipple
out
of
her
mouth
her
baby
eyes
glazed
with
blue
and
magic
milk
the
sneaky
baby
she
would
trip
you
when
she
crawled
she
was
always
sneaking
around
pretty
little
sneaky
baby
she
heard
her
mother
tell
her
friend
she
fantasized
about
the
Irish
construction
workers
fucking
her
on
the
rooftops
and
afterwards
sharing
a
cup
of
tea
while
chatting
of
Irish Opression
with
the
whole
gang
of
them
and
that
the
word
“laborer”
turned
her
on
like
mad
sneaky
little
baby
saw
mommy
kiss
a man
that wasn’t
daddy
the
sneaky
baby
never
forgets

Melissa Hansen was born in Los Angeles in 1976. The first born of a gang of five, she wrote her first poem at the age of six. By day, Melissa is an unassuming library technical assistant, but when the sun goes down, this dynamic defender of the Dewey Decimal System lays down delicious lines of truth and beauty, and occasional smut, which has been published in the nationally renown website of erotica, Ruthie’s Club. Her poetry has appeared on the pages of Zygote in my Coffee, Cherry Bleeds, Leaf Press, Kill Poet, Copious Magazine, Epic Rites, Outsider Writers and deComp, among others (but not poetry.com, that’s some other Melissa Hansen).
She’s been featured at live readings such as Nuclear Winter Poetry at Beyond Baroque, Acker’s Dangerous Daughters for Cherry Bleeds, Drinks with Tony on Pirate Cat Radio, and the Rob and Jack America Show on BlogTalk Radio. To know her is to love her, and to read her work is to have your mind’s eye punched out with the lead velvet strength of her words.
Melissa is the author of two collections of poetry, little beasts and hungry girls, and a collection of smut, her machine. She currently lives in San Francisco with her husband.
brilliant poem, Melissa.
sneaky babies… so hard to avoid.
melissa, i love this piece–it gets right
down into my bones! thank you!
Yeah, and Melissa’s photo looks like she may have been a sneaky baby herself.
