Eclectic Calls for Submissions
The LiteraryMary, journal of the beautiful, unusual and eclectic, will be publishing our second print issue in Spring of 2010. We are now accepting submissions of poetry, fiction, and black and white photography. We are also open to experimental pieces that don’t necessarily fall into any of those categories. Rather than ask you to familiarize yourself with our style, you should keep in mind that although we have plenty of class, we have no style. We intend to publish a myriad of styles, our main concern being that what you submit is written well. We do not believe that good writing needs to be style specific, but it does need to be sincere, honest and absolutely free of grammatical errors, spelling errors and the kind of mistakes professionals just don’t make. Please no previously published work. Simultaneous submissions are fine, but let us know if your work gets accepted somewhere else as soon as possible. Finally, we ask that if your writing has been workshopped over the internet you take it offline when you submit to us. Submit to us. I like the sound of that.
It is important that you read this next part carefully, because if you do not submit in exactly the manner described below, we will reject your submission. If doing last year’s journal taught us anything, it is that there is a reason editors are so tight assed about submission guidelines.
If you are interested, please send up to six of your best pieces of poetry regardless of length and/or up to three pieces of fiction, for a total of no more than 4000 words, as separate attachments (using either .doc, docx, .rtf, or .wpd file extensions) to literary.mary.submissions@gmail.com. We will not accept submissions pasted into the body of an email or a single document. Do not zip your files. Experimental pieces and black and white photography should also be sent to this address. Please include your name and the best description you can come up with for what you’re submitting in the subject line, such as ‘poetry’ or ‘fiction’ etc. If you do not include a description in the subject line we will not read it. Don’t forget to include the email address at which you’d prefer to be contacted, a snail mail address, telephone number and a short bio in the body of the email.
Submissions will be chosen in a mostly anonymous process and we will notify you whether or not you’ve been accepted in as timely a manner as possible. The deadline for submissions will be December 31, 2009. Payment will be one contributor’s copy since our staff works on a volunteer basis and that’s all we can afford right now. Extra copies will be available for purchase on the LiteraryMary website, and hopefully at a bookstore near you. Regardless, we will eventually take over the world.

Off Beat Pulp
*Accept e-mail submissions only, preferably pasted into the body of an e-mail.
*Response time may range anywhere from 3–8 weeks or less.
*All material found within “Off Beat Pulp” remains the exclusive property of the author or artist and may not be reproduced in any form without the consent of the author.
*Simultaneous submissions are pretty much FROWNED UPON. It’s not fair to all the hard working editors in the small press/lit-zine universe.
Poetry: Two to five poems may be submitted during one period.
Short Stories: Two pieces at the most and try to keep the word count under 5000. I may take a submission longer, though it’s fighting an uphill battle.
Flash Fiction/Postcard Prose: No more than three short prose pieces should be submitted at a time. Word count should be under 1000 words.
Art/Photography: Keep it to around three submitted at a time.
Guest Editorials: Just send along one or two and try to keep the work count under 1500. I realize you have something to say and I encourage you to say it, but let’s not turn a rant into a ramble, okay?
Photo Essays: Send us YOUR work, and YOUR work only! Don’t try so hard your images lose all meaning. Don’t try and be Ansel Adams. We have nothing against the late, great Mr. Adams, but he nailed being Ansel Adams, we don’t need another. Go have fun and create something cool. Your images do not need to be brand new, they can be something you created 20 years ago at camp. They do have to be unpublished. We at Off Beat Pulp want to be the first to showcase your work. We are not liable for any problems that may arise from your images WHATSOEVER. Images cannot be more than 900 px wide at 72 dpi. Please send photos in jpeg format. No More than 12 photos per Essay submission.
Off Beat Post Cards: Postcards must be custom made by YOU. They must include some element of art (painted, drawn, inked, glued collage, or mixed media) We prefer it also include some element of poetry or short prose. We discourage digital art on this one, folks. This is a different animal. We want to leave the postal workers in wonder. Send your custom made Off Beat Post Cards to:
Off Beat Pulp
4913 Fontana
Roeland Park, KS 66205
Postcards received will be scanned and posted in a new “Off Beat Postcard” gallery in the next Issue of Off Beat Pulp!
Other Stuff: Just send it. Keep it reasonable. If we like it, we’ll make room for it.
Send your submissions to submissions@offbeatpulp.com. Any questions you have regarding this project can be sent to the above email address. We’ll answer them.

Additional information for ArtPrize applicants
Help for artists

Please, contact Kevin Buist at kevin@artprize.org with any questions.
Ideas to consider;
You may be able to find an investor to help with costs for a share of the winnings, if you win
If you belong to a gallery, the gallery may want to help you and other artists it represents participate in the contest for a share of the winnings.
Your gallery may also want to consider opening an ArtPrize venue.
You may be able to split the cost of travel and accommodations with other artists from your area.
Volunteers have already offered up rooms for artists to stay in Grand Rapids, inquire with kevin@artprize.org.

CUPIDO MAGAZINE IS SEEKING EROTIC FICTION SUBMISSIONS
Cupido magazine, the uniquely intelligent and well-respected erotic magazine published in Norway and Denmark, is now seeking submissions of erotic short stories written in English.
For those who haven’t heard of Cupido, it is a magazine that truly has no parallel among publications in the United States. It is, at once, erotic, sexy, thoughtful, provocative, honest, responsible, artistic, and sexually progressive. I have been Cupido’s U.S. photo representative for 15 years, and am now the U.S. contact for English language written submissions as well.
All themes and styles are welcome, but we are particularly looking for lesbian stories, stories involving fetishes other than BDSM themes, threesomes, and elderly people. Originality, literary quality, and general sex-positivity are all plusses. Previously published stories are welcome.
Payment is $250 per story, paid promptly upon publication — typically two to six months after submission. This is for non-exclusive rights for publication in Cupido’s Norwegian and Danish print magazines, on the Cupido website (www.cupido.no), and possibly in Cupido World, a new English language edition of the magazine scheduled for release in 2010. All other rights are retained by the authors.
Send submissions as Word document attachments or as email text to david@davidsteinberg.us, or call 415-674-1618 for more information.

Call for Submissions / 2009 Best of the Net Anthology
Calling all Internet-only journals! Sundress Publications has opened submissions for its fourth volume of the Best of the Net Anthology. This project works to promote the diverse and growing collection of voices that are choosing to publish their work online, a venue that continues to see little respect from such yearly anthologies as the Pushcart and Best American series. This collection is intended to bring more prestige to a innovative and continually expanding medium. Our last issue included work by Jill McCorkle, Jehanne Dubrow, Barry Jay Kaplan, Diane Lockwood, and more.
Submissions from editors will be open from July 1, 2009 to September 30th, 2009.
Winners will be announced in February, 2010.

Mountain Sentinel is seeking submissions.
Please check out the website first, read what is currently offered and glance at our mission statement on the ‘about us’ page. If you have something you think will fit our agenda, by all means contact us.
Currently we cannot afford to pay for submissions. All content is presently offered free online. Once we move ahead with our print edition, we will begin paying contributors. At first this will amount to a token payment and contributor’s copies. As sales grow, so will payment.
Fiction: We are interested in satire, speculative fiction, new weird or bizarro fiction, particularly if it offers a radical perspective. Really, we’ll look at anything that attempts to reach people and wake them up. Length does not matter, though we would prefer to be queried first for anything over 10,000 words.
Poetry: We aren’t too interested in poetry, but will look it over if it is something that reaches people and seeks to wake them up.
Artwork: We’d like to see anything that attempts to reach people and make a statement.
Video, multimedia: We might be interested. Query first.
Submissions should be doc or rtf files attached to an email and should be in standard format (double spaced, Times New Roman or Courier font, flush left — for a full description of standard format visit our web page
The subject line should read Submission: *your title*.
Include full contact information.
A short bio and cover letter might be useful, but are not necessary.
Send your submission to mountsent.submissions@gmail.com
